Water consumption
What is it?
The measured value refers to the amount of water used within a property portfolio during a certain period of time. It is an important measure of how much water is consumed for various purposes within buildings and areas for which the property company is responsible.
Water use can for example include the following aspects:
Domestic water: This includes the water used by the residents or tenants of the properties for daily purposes such as drinking water, showering, toilet flushing, washing, cooking and washing dishes.
Commercial use: If the properties include commercial spaces or offices, the water use may also include use by shops, restaurants, or other businesses located on the properties.
Irrigation: If the properties have gardens, green areas or vegetable farms that require irrigation, this water content is also included in the measurement.
Cooling system: Some properties have cooling systems that use water to regulate the indoor temperature. This water is also counted in water use.
Fire extinguishing: Even water used for fire extinguishing systems in the properties can be counted as part of the water use.
It is usually divided into two water types; cold and hot when you look at it more closely. The unit is m3.
How is it calculated?
Sum of water consumption
= m

* Includes only the usage during the specified time period.
Why is it important to follow?
Tracking water use is important for several reasons:
Cost analysis: It gives the real estate company insight into its water costs and can help identify opportunities for cost savings by reducing unnecessary water use.
Sustainability: Measuring water use is an important part of assessing and improving sustainability in real estate operations. By reducing water use, the property company can reduce its environmental impact and contribute to water-saving initiatives.
Reporting: In some areas, property companies may be required to report their water use to authorities or follow specific water conservation targets and regulations.
Customer satisfaction: Many tenants and customers are today aware of sustainability and can value property companies' efforts to reduce water use and thus minimize resource waste.
In summary, water use within real estate companies is an important indicator of both economic efficiency and sustainability measures. By monitoring and streamlining their water use, real estate companies can achieve cost savings and contribute to a more sustainable future.
