Metrics

Energy Consumption

The total amount of energy consumed in the portfolio during a selected period.

Energy Consumption shows how much energy the property portfolio uses during a given period. It typically includes electricity, district heating, district cooling, gas, and other energy carriers used for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, and building operations. Consumption can be tracked for the entire portfolio, per property, or per area unit (e.g., kWh/m²).

How is it calculated?

Total consumption of all energy carriers during the period

Why is it important to follow?

This metric is key for understanding operating costs, environmental impact, and building efficiency. By tracking energy consumption over time, property companies can:

  • Identify energy-intensive buildings or systems
  • Evaluate the effects of energy efficiency measures
  • Comply with environmental reporting and certification requirements
  • Contribute to reduced carbon emissions and sustainability goals

Energy Consumption also serves as the foundation for related KPIs, such as energy per m², energy per tenant, or carbon impact from energy use.
