First dashboards developed and initial results identified in pilot project with Collecct
Homepal, in collaboration with Collecct and four property companies – Heba, Sveaviken PM, Bostäder i Borås, and Värmdöbostäder – has launched a pilot project to develop solutions that simplify waste data management. The project aims to create a more structured and efficient method for collecting, analyzing, and utilizing waste-related information, leading to better insights and decision-making support.
Step 1: Data collection and standardization
The first step in the pilot project was to collect and standardize data from waste service providers. This process was fully managed via Collecct’s platform and has now been completed for most of the participating companies. The platform ensures that the data is accurate and ready for further analysis and reporting.
Step 2: Needs analysis
In collaboration with half of the companies, we conducted needs analyses to identify the objectives and requirements of the target groups. Questions such as “What is the purpose of monitoring waste data?”, “Who are the target audiences?” and “How do we measure success?” were central. The analysis led to three primary needs:
Waste sorting rate
Intended for: Property managers, maintenance technicians, and property developers.
Purpose: Identify opportunities for improvement by comparing properties and analyzing waste sorting rates. Helps align actions with goals or standards.
Key features: Overview of sorting rates, fraction-specific waste volumes relative to the number of dwellings, and trend visualizations.
Expected outcome: Increased sorting rates over time and a more balanced distribution of waste per dwelling. A successful implementation would involve identified properties with low sorting rates implementing specific measures resulting in significant improvements.
Mixed waste for post-sorting
Intended for: Property managers and maintenance technicians.
Purpose: Reduce the volume of mixed waste by identifying problem areas and implementing improvement measures.
Key features: Visualization of mixed waste volumes per property and trend analysis over time.
Expected outcome: Reduced mixed waste volumes and lower waste management costs. Success is measured by identifying properties with high levels of mixed waste and implementing measures that significantly reduce these volumes.
Waste for reporting
Intended for: Sustainability managers.
Purpose: Facilitate reporting in accordance with CSRD and other requirements through a clear overview of waste volumes and their climate impact.
Key features: Total volumes per fraction, CO2 equivalents, and comparisons over time.
Expected outcome: Time savings and improved accuracy in reporting. A successful implementation would ensure that reporting meets all requirements while reducing resource demands.
Next steps: Evaluation and optimization
The dashboards have now been rolled out to half of the companies, and work continues to evaluate their effectiveness. The goal is to collect feedback and further optimize the solutions. Already, insights from the dashboards have led to concrete actions, such as identifying and addressing a property’s high residual waste per unit.
We look forward to sharing more results and insights from the pilot project in the future. Would you like to explore the first dashboards developed? Here are links to the three:
